Gatherings & Symposiums

Over the course of 5 months, (January-May 2024) the All Souls Unitarian Church, located on E 56th Street in Indianapolis, generously hosted monthly HRFDT readings. These events consisted of a brief teaching on Frederick Douglass followed by a group reading and open discussion. In 2012, the Douglass Papers began hosting a biannual public symposium to observe the publication of its new scholarly volumes. During the symposium, scholars from across the country present sessions on the symposium’s theme, alongside reading from selected Douglass speeches. This tradition has carried on with the most recent symposium being held in 2025.
